As Chair of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber Hispanic Affairs we are reaching out to you for advocacy and support.
We are in the eleventh hour of the 2009 Legislative session. Today in the last day to effect change for the better for our community. Last night, during the evening news hour, it was reported that Governor O'Malley will sign whichever form of the licensing bill comes to his
desk. We must make all efforts we can, to ensure that the right bill gets to his desk.
We encourage you, today, to please take two minutes of your busy schedule to call and email Senate President Mike Miller and your State Senator and House Delegates as Hispanic and Minority business owners and professionals and remind them that the Governor has expressed public support for the House version of the immigrant licensing bill and ask them to support the inclusion of the "grandfathering clause" into the licensing bill up for vote in the State House today. This clause will allow current immigrant licensees to keep and be able to renew their MD licenses, even if the state moves to comply with Federal Real ID.
The number and email to the Senate President is below. To find the contact info for your state senator and delegates, please visit the General Assembly website: http://www.mlis.state.md.us and click on "find your legislator" on the homepage, this will prompt you to a page where you
can write in your home address to find the information.
It is important that we take this eleventh-hour effort to protect our community from being deprived of their legally obtained licenses. Maryland residents should not be punished for the fraud being committed by out-of-state license-seekers.
Gracias...
Y Maria Welch
